The commercial decision
Customization is not one service level. A logo print, a new control overlay and a changed cavity have very different engineering consequences. The RFQ should classify the change before asking for price or lead time.
What the evidence can support
Cosmetic changes can affect coating adhesion, chemical declarations and artwork. Interface changes can affect tools, assembly and usability. System changes to heater power, airflow, door, controls or firmware can alter safety, EMC and cooking evidence. Accessories may change loading, clearances and food-contact documentation.
A repeatable way to compare suppliers
For every requested change, list affected drawings, BOM items, tooling, software, tests, certificates, packaging and spare parts. Ask the compliance body whether existing evidence remains valid. Freeze colour and appearance with signed samples under controlled lighting, while technical acceptance remains tied to measurable specifications.
Cost and launch consequences
Quote one-time engineering, tooling, compliance, samples and unit cost separately. Also price minimum order quantities and obsolete inventory for unique parts. A lower unit quote can be more expensive over the program if it creates a dedicated board, heater or carton with weak volume leverage.
Boundaries on the claim
Do not promise 'full customization' without defining ownership, feasibility and evidence. Some changes are constrained by existing patents, certified constructions, tool life, supplier minimums or safety clearances.
